Practical Life

'Pouring Work' cut paper art by Jennifer Howard
I just finished this 11 x 9 inch cut paper piece and wanted to share it with you all. I am working on a different image for each area of the classroom. As you know Cornerspring is expanding to included two new classes and a whole new building (that needs decorating!). So I thought I would create some art for the walls. My father suggested putting her on a lighter color back ground and I may do that. I'll share it if I decide to change it and the other pieces as they are completed.
Any feed back is welcome and appreciated!
Happy creating!
PS Check out this AMAZING cut paper artist when time allows you!

I think this is a wonderful idea! Your artwork is so beautiful and I love the idea of hanging them throughout the room. I can not tell you how much I wish my youngest was in your classroom!

Wow, that is such a compliment.
I'm glad you like this one, because I'm about ready to toss the one I'm working on out the window!

You are certainly a talented artist! How did you learn to do this paper art? It is so simple in looks and yet I KNOW it can't be easy. I wish I could do such work and have it come out so well!

Thank you!
I don't really know how I came to make these pictures...I was raised by artists who painted and I never felt comfortable doing so myself, but I would often cut paper up to 'paint' with it, trying to match the exact color of something in nature. Anyway, now I draw a pen and ink of the image I want to recreate with paper and make several copies of it. Then using the copies as a pattern of sorts I cut colored paper to fit and begin the layering process. Sometimes I need to use tweezers for the fine details but most often not. If I actually sat and created one piece it would probably take five hours. I like this art medium because it is portable and forgiving and easy to leave and return to later. Which as you know, as a busy Mom, this is priceless. Thanks for the question!

It is AWESOME!! I love the idea of having one for each classroom area. And for the record, I really like it on the purple. But who am I to argue with your dad?? :0)

You are very talented! But I guess you know it. For me, that's what makes you an artist - knowing deep inside your heart that you possess a talent that just needs to find its way out. All you should do is to listen to yourself and let your heart lead you in your creation. You are very lucky for having this gift as all the artists (that is what I try to remind to my husband whenever he needs a "hug" in his works:)
Thank you for sharing your works with us. Looking forward to see your other creations.
Warmly,
Miri
